A record shows that the renowned Long Family in the prosperous neighbouring Shunde county (of the Qinghui Garden fame, and the family was active in the 18th and 19th centuries), used sweet and sour pork to test the skills of their family chefs. It spread to the United States in the early 20th century after the Chinese migrant goldminers and railroad workers turned to cookery as trades. The original meaning of the American term chop suey refers to sweet and sour pork.

Sweet and sour pork recipe

Ingredients
-Pineapple 1/3 of a tin.
-marbled pork without skin 200 grams.
-green pepper one piece.
-1 red chilli
- 1 egg
- 2 pieces of sliced garlic
- rice wine
- corn starch

Sweet and sour sauce contains
-white vinegar
-ketchup
-worcestershire sauce
-salt
-sugar

Step 1: Cut the pineapple, red chill, and green pepper into pieces.
Step 2: Mix the pork with teaspoon of salt, sugar, and rice wine.
Step 3: Add the egg yolk to the pork and then add the cornstarch until it's totally coated.
Step 4: Pour some cooking oil into the wok and bring it up into a medium heat.
Step 5: Then place the pork into the wok and deep fry it until it's golden brown.
Step 6: Take out the pork and drain it.
Step 7: Next you add the green pepper, red chilli and sliced garlic.
Step 8: Pour in the sweet and sour sauce and bring it to a boil.
Step 9: Mix a small of cornstarch with water.
Step 10: Pour it into the wok and stir it well.
